1. Describe the time and place in which your novel is set. What clues within the book tell us this?
The time is... unknown but maybe in the 500's to 1100's so basiacly medivel times, one we don't have dragons now.
The time of the book is actually given at the end so the time period is 1998, Russia Moscow the year I was born!
2. Who are the main characters in your book? List the names and a short description of their personality traits.
Gandalf a mysterious wizard who has shaped this world and seems to have a very shifty side. Bilbo is someone who has two sides one is the lazy one who dosen't adventure and the other one is the one that always looks for something dangerous to do. Thorin is a dwarf that will do anything to recreate the glory of his people.
Anton is a Light magician a person who is an Other a person with magical abilities who must combat the Dark the flipside an evil group of Others that feed off of despair and other darker emotions the dark also includes vampires and werewolves, Anton is essential in the book as he helps solve the biggest of problems which is destroying a black vortex of humongous porportions. On the subject of black vortexs is that alot of the disaster of the world were caused by these vortexs such as Hiroshima. Olga is a veteran Light magician but she was sentenced by 'The Council' to stay as an owl but can return to human form for a short period of time she has been alive for over 2 or 3 centuries, she failed in an immensley important task as so she was stuck as an owl. Gesar or Borris Ingaviech (I think I spelt it right) or Boss is a lower great magician a person who is more powerful than many other magicians but is still less powerful than a Great Magician or Great Socerecss he plays an anomynous role, he is a person that has been around for an extremely long time influencing nations he seems to know everthing but doesn't tell everything until it suits his needs. Svetlana a person who almost destroyed Russia though not purposely through the schemes of the Dark ones, she soon becomes Anton's wife after she gives up the chance to become a Great Socerecss.Zabulon is the head of the Dark ones just like Gesar except he has put in motion a series of events to give power to the Dark ones he has amazing abilities that we don't yet fully discover and he can turn into a demon. Enton is a new Other only 12 years old and extremely powerful both sides fight for him but through some actions he will probably become a Dark one.Maxim an elemental Other who kills Dark ones with a wooden knife an extremely powerful weapon, Maxim will become and Inquisitor a person in the Inquistion an organazation above the forces of light and dark.
3. Describe the significant relationships between the main characters.
The more important of the main characters is Bilbo,Thorin and Gandalf Well the relation between Bilbo and Thorin is one that helps in the end of the book, Bilbo is somewhat like an advisor to Thorin but later on Bilbo grows to be more of the leader and that helps him save Thorin from his greed. The relationship between Bilbo and Gandalf is more of a father son relationship Gandalf looks after Biblo while Bilbo admires Gandalf. The relationship between Thorin and Gandalf is one more of suspicion and cloak and dagger, Thorin suspects Gandalf as a betrayer and is suspicious on what he has that aids them in their journey but is fond of his protection which creates an uneasy alliance that warms later.
There so many main characters so I'll only do the ones that are mentioned more than the other main characters. Anton and Svetlana is a love hate relationship and they care about each other but have problems expressing their feelings toward each other while both feel that they shoudn't be together while feeling that they both need to be together. Anton and Gesar is one of loathing and respect while Anton respects Gesar but he also hates him because of his tricks and lies to force him away from Svetlana, While Gesar thinks that Anton is a little too childish to understand the mechanics of his plans. Anton and Enton is one of awe, respect then hate. In the begining Anton shows Enton the wonders of his power but Enton starts to think of selfish ways to his power after seeing what the Watches do he immediatley distances himself from them hating them but his destiny is changed towards the Dark.Anton and Zabulon is a relationship of friend or foe, Zabulon is the one that has put Anton through his horrors but at the begining you can't tell. Zabulon is one who can become his inner being basically a demon. Nearing the end of the book Zabulon decides to help Anton telling him of the object that Svetlana a Great Soceress will hold a piece of chalk that will rewrite certain evetnts in the Book of Destiny. Olga and Anton is one simply of friends nothing else they know that they need each other to complete the job and only that there are no mixed feelings between them only when it comes to Svetlana that they become angry at each other. Olga and Gesar are long time lovers there extemely old and they absolutley love each other, Gesar's plan was for Svetlana to fail and for Olga to finish the job allowing the 'Council' to allow Olga human form once again.
4. Who is your favourite character and why? Or - Who is the character that you can most closely relate to and why?
My favourite character is Smaug the dragon although he is a short character in the book he is non the less a character that is carried through the entire story because he is the main objective, so Smaug must be killed to get the treasure so it is quite interesting to meet him for the veryfirst time, to hear a dragon speak is more of a wonderful song being spoken through the harsh and cruel tounge of a demon. Smaug is quite the trickester when speaking to him his smart vocabulary is used to change the topic and eventually weed the truth out of you and kill you. The things that like about is that he loves riddles and words and treasure, but also that he would rather know than kill is somehting I think is very..cool, 'Knowlegde is Power' 'Guard it well'
My favourite character is Maxim. Maxim is an Inquisitor a person who tortures and kills anyone who disobeys the treaty, a magical truce in another world called the twilight. Maxim started out as a strange devotee of God a person who believes he is the only shining knight of God to fight the evil forces of the Dark ones, but by killing people of the Dark he places the treaty in danger of being shattered so Anton must find Maxim but there is no trail as any kill would leave a trace, but Maxim has been using a wooden knife an elemental weapon of extreme power that leaves no trace at all, eventually Maxim is found and taken into the Inquistion and turned into an Inquisitor.I lilke Maxim because of his single minded determination to to take care of everyone and i like his ruthlesness and cruelty to get the truth.
5. Describe the style of language and literary devices that the author uses. a) Find examples of; colourful adjectives, similes, metaphor, dramatic irony, etc.. b) Find a quote (with page number) for each example.
adjectives:luxurios, nasty, dirty, wet hole, ends of worms, and oozy smell.
Dramatic Irony: They are,(or were)
Old language:gracious,prosy,hither
6. Is your book an example of ‘classic’ or ‘modern’ literature? You must use evidence to back up your stance. For example; has your book stood the ‘test of time’? Are there theme’s that will transcend time?
I think that my book is a classic, one piece of evidence is that The Hobbit was published in the 1940s so to still be recognized now is quite an achievement, another thing is in The Hobbit J.R. Tolkien has put in an amazingly complex bunch of events that happen in The Hobbit that create consequences both good and bad so people will keep going back again and again to figure out this puzzle, and finnaly this book appeals to all ages of people it's not like Diary of a Wimp Kid that is aime at teenagers and children, this book is one that everyone will like this are my reasons.
This a modern book one example I have for you is the very front where it is said that this book is a Harry Potter, also that there is slang in this, the events here are not as complex as The Hobbit here is a much more complex space of events but The Hobbit had a more set problem than The Night Watch. Also many people have written about alternate worlds in our own world and Guardians that protect us normal people.
7. After reading the book, write a short note to a friend describing the book. Include a description of the genre, setting and difficulty level. You need to also include the following information; What were the main themes in the book? What was the central conflict? How was it resolved? Describe your feelings towards the novel. Did you enjoy it, why or why not? Did you find it easy to get into? Did you like it the more that you read it? Would you read more books by the same author, or of a similar genre?
This book
Well I already know the story so summary is what I am going to do, So Bilbo a hobbit is whisked away on a mission to steal and kill a dragon your basic fantasy homework anyway along the way he'll have to become a top class burglar, go through a goblin infested mountain, steal a magical ring, fight a demon and steal/kill Smaug the dragon. Piece of cake!
Setting Description: It had a perfectly round door like a porthole, paintred green, with a shiny yellow brass knob in the exact middle. The door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel: a very comfortable tunnel without smoke, with panelled walls, and floors tiled and carpeted, provided with polished chairs, and lots and lots of pegs for hats - the hobbit was fond of visitors. The tunnel wound on and on, going fairly but not quite straight into the side of the hill - The Hill, as all the people mfor many miles round called it.
